Feb. 4, 2008 Hoboken, NJ - Adelphi Swimming faced tough competition against Steven's Institute of Technology, with both sides coming up short in the end. The Men lost 113-92 against the Ducks, and move to 8-2 overall, and the women's 105-65 loss moves them to 4-5 overall. Senior Brendan Berry led off the men's side with a 10:18.15, second place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle. Following Berry's race, Zachary Terzano, Tory Cozzi and Stephen Clay placed one, three and six in 200-yard freestyle respectfully. Terzano continued to hit an ECAC qualifying mark and his 1:46.30 is now two seconds off a NCAA "B" cut. The Men also place three in the top six when the trio of Alex Griffith, Brad Meaney and Charles Castillo placed second, third and fifth in the 200-yard IM. Timmy Mueller picked up an ECAC "B" cut in the 100-yard fly with a second place, 55.39. Terzano, coming from behind, was able to pick up his second win of the day, and a second ECAC qualifying mark in the 100-yard free. Andrew Meditz was another individual event winner, posting a 1:03.27 in the 100-yard breast. Adelphi Women began the meet with a 2:03.65, first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Kristina Shine posted a 27.67 in the 50 free, good enough for a third place finish. Caylee Squillante also finished third in the 200-yard IM in 2:32.06. The Women continued to put together a series of third place finishes: Kelly Mark in the 100-yard fly, Jacquelyn Birkel in the 100 free, and Shine in the 100 backstroke. The women saw a strong performance in the 500-yard free with Squillante and Jennifer Scarnati finishing one-two. Amanda Knapp ended the meet for the women with a 1:14.42 first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. Adelphi Swimming now enters their championship portion of their season. On February 22-24, the Panthers will travel to New Brunswick, New Jersey to compete in the METS championships. |
