Feb. 25, 2008

New Brunswick, NJ - The Panthers traveled to New Brunswick, NJ to compete in the METS Championship meet. The men finished in 6th place with 519 points, the Panthers' highest finish in the program's history, and the women finished 10th with 236.5 points.

The men were led by Zachary Terzano who posted four ECAC A-cut times including a third place finish in the 500-yard freestyle and a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle. Terzano's 200-yard time of 1:41.78 and 500-yard time of 4:40.02 were good enough for a NCAA B-cut. Freshman Alex Griffith qualified for ECAC competition in three events, A-cut in the 100-Free, A-cut in the 400 IM and a B-cut in the 200 IM. Griffith's 4:17.44 in the 400-IM was good enough for a sixth place finish. The Captains Andrew Meditz and Brendan Berry both hit two B-cuts in two events - Meditz in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke and Berry in the 200 and 1000-yard Freestyle. Freshman Tory Cozzi and Timmy Mueller rounded out the Panthers qualifying run with three individual B-cuts themselves; Cozzi in the 100 and the 200-yard Freestyle and Mueller in the 100-yard Fly.

The Panthers remained solid in the relays, qualifying four for ECAC action. The list includes the 200 and 400-yard Medley Relay and 200 and 800-yard Freestyle Relay.

On the women's side the relays held the Panthers afloat with four top ten finishes and one 11th. The team of Jackie Birkel, Kelly Mark, Kristina Shine and Caylee Squillante opened the Brown and Gold's run with a 9th place finish in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. Amanda Knapp stepped in for Birkel in the 400-yard Medley Relay and the Panthers ended up with another 9th place finish.

The Panthers will return to action when they travel to the University of Pittsburgh to swim in the ECAC Championships.
