Garden City, NY - Senior Tomasz Walczak (Olesnica, Poland) and Freshman Anton Voynov (Burgas, Bulgaria) were named to the East Coast Conference (ECC) all-conference list announced by the conference office and voted on by the league's coaches for the 2008 season. Walczak was honored with first team kudos, while Voynov received a second team spot. Walczak finished the regular season at the number one singles spot, 12-6 with a 2-2 record in the ECC. Voynov's 14-4 overall and 1-3 conference record at the number two and three positions was enough for his first all-conference team selection. Alex Grubin of Concordia College and a native of Belgrade, Serbia, has been named the East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year as selected by the conference coaches. Grubin, who currently is ranked the top player in NCAA Division II by the International Tennis Association, owns an 18-2 overall mark at No. 1 singles and a 17-6 record as part of the Clippers' No. 1 singles pairings. He also captured the ECC No. 1 singles flight championship this past February. Fabio Minami of Queens College and a native of Sao Bernardo de Campo, Brazil, earned ECC Rookie of the Year honors. Minami put together a 13-2 overall record in singles play including a 7-0 overall mark at No. 2, a 3-0 mark at No. 3 and was 2-2 against No. 1 singles opponents. He added an 11-5 overall combined record in double play including an 11-3 mark at the No. 2 doubles flight. Neil Tarangioli of Concordia was named Coach of the Year. Tarangioli guided the Clippers to a 16-2 overall regular season record including a perfect 5-0 mark in ECC play. The Clippers captured their fourth consecutive ECC regular season title and went on to post their 10th straight ECC tournament title and 16th overall. The ECC All Conference First Team included Minami and Grubin, along with Rodrigo Teixeira and Nik Boerger of Concordia, Tomasz Walczak of Adelphi University, and Jose Gomez of Dowling College. The Second Team included Kirill Azovtsev, Josep Molet and Henning Ruenz of Concordia, Anton Voynov of Adelphi, Mehdi Rhazali of Mercy College, and Dave Burstein of Queens.
